undercurrent is an independent curatorial platform for discursive, performative, and educational practices in and beyond the field of dance, choreography, and performance. It develops and implements diverse cultural projects through unruly modes, divergent formats, and mediums. It envisions to expand the critical discourse within the local context of what is performing arts today, as well as to reinforce various plexes of collaboration and communication with the translocal context.
undercurrent was initiated in Athens (GR) in 2022 by Christina Karagianni (performer, choreographer, researcher), Elena Novakovits (dramaturg, researcher, curator) and Nassia Fourtouni (researcher, educator). Arriving from both practice and theory they share an interest in politics of labour, institutional critique, working conditions, situated and collective forms of knowledge production, feminist practices, archival research, writing as a curatorial tool, and the curatorial practices as a gesture of reformulating established modes of production.
